On twitter Trump implied that Bezos was using WaPo’s losses to offset gains at Amazon. Bezos bought WaPo in his own name, not as part of Amazon.

...

It could be that Bezos is using the losses of the Compost to offset the gains of his personal holdings.

I sure can't see how he can take the losses on a company he owns personally and use them to offset the earnings of Amazon, a public company.

That said, Trump always has something up his sleeve.

Sorry, I misread your post.

Trump has been tweeting that somehow Bezos was using WaPa loses to reduce the tax liability of Amazon.

Trump would be wrong. The reports I’ve read say Bezos probably bought the paper for influence.

Regardless, Trump is striking back at one of the many media outlets attacking him. I think he gets more attention when he’s factually incorrect and that serves his purpose.

You may be right. But he isn't usually wrong.

He exaggerates but is right in substance.

And considering that the real estate business involves a great knowledge of how the tax system works, I can't believe he would make an error like this...unless he didn't realize that Amazon didn't buy WaPo, Bezos did. But in his tweets he acknowledged it was Bezos who bought WaPo and Amazon was using the loses to reduce its tax liability.

I guess we'll get to the bottom of it when it hits the evening news tonight.;-)

Trump is playing games. He is neutralizing a threat. He basically told Bezos, lighten up on your attacks or if I am elected we will be looking into your taxes.

Maybe so. If so, he's entering Hugo Chavez territory. Or Obama. Either way, using the FedGov to crush your opposition, not good. I hope that's not his plan for how he'd govern.

Agreed. He’s outrageous on an issue he wants to bring up. While others are selling their souls and spending tens of millions on advertising, Trump is using his Twitter account to get free coverage.

If being factually correct won campaigns, Congress would be filled with accountants.

I’m sure he does on his personal taxes, but Trump was talking about Amazon’s taxes.

Think Sales taxes. A tax on Internet sales would devastate Amazon.

No...single quarter. First time ever.

Of course he does: “stop saying bad things about me, or I’ll turn the IRS loose on you”. Your basic bullyboy tactics, nothing subtle at all.
