Authorities in Finland are considering giving every citizen a tax-free payout of â¬800 (£576) each month.
Under proposals being draw up by the Finnish Social Insurance Institution (Kela), this national basic income would replace all other benefit payments, and would be paid to all adults regardless of whether or not they receive any other income.
Unemployment in Finland is currently at record levels, and the basic income is intended to encourage more people back to work. At present, many unemployed people would be worse off if they took on low-paid temporary jobs due to loss of welfare payments.

you are wright
No more unemployment insurance, no more food stamps (the finnish version), no more housing assistance...
All welfare programs go away.
Your loss! I was agreeing with you.
Lol, you could get a job at OMB in a Bernie Sanders administration.
Not to mention that we are actually doing it now - just laundering the money through an infinite number of Democrat agencies to hide th reality and as a reward for the votes they bring in. A straight check would cut out lots of vote and contribution fraud.
I agree. This might just save money in the long run. Even here in the United States it would save money.
From whence will the cash come to do this?
From all the money they are giving for housing, food, heating, unemployment, medical costs, etc. If you add up what we pay out today, giving every adult citizen 1,000 a month would save us a ton......don’t forget all the workers and others that run these programs. It would be a major savings.
I’m embarrassed by my heritage now.
Why? Are you Swedish? (My Dad’s side is Norwegian with a smidgen of Finn thrown in).
What, they have a shortage of illegal immigrants and terrorists there?
I’m quarter Fin’(but don’t know a lick of Finlander), but I should correct myself... I’m embarrassed by what Finland has become, but then America is following it right down that road, too...
Everybody gets the government check
A little more than our means-tested SSI program.
Its not welfare, its a basic income program that doesn’t leave people worse off when they work.
Welfare punishes work. A basic income program does the opposite.
Its a no-brainer to get rid of welfare.
