Following his announcement that he is opening all positions in the U.S. military--including all combat positions--to women who can meet the standards, Defense Secretary Ash Carter was asked on Thursday if that means women will have to register with the Selective Service, just as men must do.
"It may," he said.
A reporter asked Carter, "Mr. Secretary, does this decision now lead to a -- a greater debate about whether women need to register for Selective Service?"
"It may do that, Phil," Carter replied. "That is a matter of legal dispute right now, and in fact, litigation. So...I don't know how that will turn out.

Carter, like Loretta Lynch, another fool who was actually CONFIRMED by the REPUBLICANS WE SENT TO WASHINGTON to STOP THIS!
I might believe sarcasm a time or two. When the predominance of the posts lean that way I have to think more than a few of them are serious.
One guy tried to convince me the vapid teen/millenial wimmins at his local mall who thought they were just as good as men at everything deserved to get blown up.
Elimination of breeding age females in the ‘birth pool’ has long been a goal of the left. Inducting a large portion of them into the military in a ‘time of war’ and then using that as an excuse to sterilize them (temporarily is always an iffy business) would decimate the birth rate. As would getting large numbers of them killed. And the possibility of preferentially sending women from ‘undesirable’ groups (Christians) to hard front line assignments to get them killed off would be irresistible.
But hey, ‘we’ deserve it or something.
My dad was singlehandedly supporting (no welfare or foodstamps back then) his mother and 4 younger schoolage siblings when he got his draft notice. He was unable to decline the invitation.
I’m amazed how few seem to be picking up on the fact that these actions that are being taken to put women in combat are completely unilateral on Obama’s part, with no recognition of the legitimate role of Congress in making such decisions and setting national policies which affect the military.
What about boys who think they are girls? Do they have to register?
Charlie Rangel and those of his persuasion promote the narrative that “blacks” as a percentage died overwhelmingly more in wars than “whites”.
They want conscription. My guess as payback to a melanin-challenged group.
A quick read of his bio as provided, this guy is Defense Secretary but did not serve in any branch of our Country’s defense?
My thoughts as well. I say we go one further and make signing up for Selective Service a requirement if you want to vote!
I’d support that.
Country has gone downhill since suffragism won.
I am old enough (just barely) to remember Vietnam so allow me to shed some light on that.
The reason public opinion turned against the war (and as a consequence we lost one for the first time) is that the draft was taking young men involuntarily to toss into a meat grinder for which we had no plan to win, and which Walter Cronkite had convinced the country we could not win.
Hence it was the PARENTS of the draftees turning against the war that turned the tide. No one took campus protesters any more seriously than we take those fools at Missouri. But actual, mature, job-holding tax-paying adult voters marching against the war DID get the attention of politicians, and they ended it.
The Left has tried in vain to replicate this, as with an all-volunteer military most people realize that our soldiers and sailors signed up for this sacrifice voluntarily and fully informed.
Bringing back the draft will, they feel, again radicalize the parents of potential draftees and turn us into a radically pacifist country. Particularly if daughters might be drafted.
Yes! Agree
Thanks, I don’t really remember it. Probably because my immediate family members that were drafted, were turned out. (medical). I do remember watching the fall of Saigon.
The reason the parents turned against the draft was simple.
It became obvious we weren’t there to actually WIN.
We haven’t been allowed to WIN any war since WWII.
When we have leadership that actually wants to WIN a war in the best interests of THIS country, let me know.
You came a long way baby! Now you will be drafted! When the draft starts how many women will get pregnant to get out of having to go into a uniform? Might be good for the population in any case. This is a bad idea—every nation in history that has tried this has seen it fail—in History. Even the Soviet Union and Israel. Maybe this time they can make it work? Women have always been a part of war—as Cooks, Washer women, nurses and camp followers. In this role maybe they will work.
They won’t be allowed to get pregnant.
Birth control shots will be mandatory. Abortions will be ordered for any birth control failure.
Because, ‘time of war’.
Under a universal draft, even guys and girls that think they are pink ponies have to sign up.
Equal under the law means just that.
It is high time all this “equality” bs gets put to rest. Men and women are NOT equal, no way now how. Giving one subgroup preferential treatment says they are not equal.
There are men’s jobs and there is women’s work, always has been always will. Don’t agree, then drive your little girl to the draft office and embrace the Brave New World.
Jihadis must be celebrating the upcoming draft of young naive women to be sent do fight and die against them, free to be raped into submission if captured.
And if we’re going to have gender equality, the next draft has to be ALL women to make up for the prior drafts that were all men.
c 57.
File this under “the only thing worse than not getting what you want is getting what you want”.
Women should have to meet the same grooming standards and the same PT standards. Your ruck doesn’t care if you’re a girl.
