Encouraging, yes. But not because Ryan is turning into the complete opposite of what he has always been (a vociferous opponent of conservatism, a shill for crony capitalists, and a silent ally of liberalism). Rather, it is because this move is probably a result of panic within the GOPe as they recognize that the base of the party, and much of the independents, are abandoning them for good. Hopefully, these types of hail mary’s by GOPe types will fail, and they will see their power shrink dramatically over the next few years.
What would be really encouraging if Ryan, and those like him, lose either their primaries, or, if necessary, their general elections. But that requires right-minded people to give up the false comfort that, for example, “Ryan is better than a democrat”, when, in the long run, that is simply not true.
