NEW YORK (AP) - Donald Trump says he thinks a group of black pastors meeting with him Monday had planned to endorse him for president but were pressured out of it because he "believes all lives matter."
"Probably some of the Black Lives Matter folks called them up and said, 'Oh, you shouldn't be meeting with Trump because he believes all lives matter,'" Trump said Monday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," referring to the movement protesting against police brutality and the killing of unarmed African-Americans.
Trump predicted some of the 100 black evangelical leaders would endorse him after the meeting, nonetheless.
Many of the religious leaders invited to the meet-and-greet with Trump were surprised that the gathering was being advertised by his Republican presidential campaign as an endorsement. After they objected, the Trump campaign decided to keep the meeting private and quietly canceled a press conference afterward meant to announce their support.
"It's a miscommunication," said Darrell Scott, the senior pastor of New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, who helped to organize the meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon in New York - one of several Trump has convened in recent months with black religious leaders.
Trump's campaign had issued a press release last week that read: "Mr. Trump will be joined by a coalition of 100 African-American evangelical pastors and religious leaders who will endorse the GOP front-runner after a private meeting at Trump Tower."......

Trump just showed again that he is making it up as he goes along. No doubt everyone of these 100 black preachers is secretly a Trump man but was forced to back out of endorsing him. Right. That’s the ticket. Trump has his own truth.
Ya shouldn’t have broadcast it until they did it!
“Donald Trump says he thinks a group of black pastors meeting with him Monday had planned to endorse him for president but were pressured out of it because he “believes all lives matter.””
Black Lives Matter. The MoveOn.Org for blacks. I bet Soros has an investment in the group.
trump jumped the gun and then covered his ass. But he does that well.
Will it blow up on him eventually? I don’t know. Time will tell.
I love how Trump explains the behind the scenes machinations so openly, without any hesitancy, as if the public can actually handle the truth. Imagine that. Telling what actually happened rather than ‘protecting’ us from the truth.
How do you know that?
He very well might have asked these Pastors if they would support him.
They very well might have answered in the affirmative.
Speculation on your part is no better than NBC.
But then Trump is also speculating.
Not after getting an affirmative answer.
Time is the difference here. Trump is not a liar.
It might be the product of a barnyard tryst between the NBP and Move On.
He has a chance to make serious inroads in the black community but not by playing these kinds of juvenile games and setting the people up against their own ministers.
Which is why we should support Ted Cruz.
The latest word from the trump campaign is that they knew not all the pastors would endorse him, but they felt it eould be too hard to explain. So they went ahead with the announcement that 100 pastors would endorse him Monday. The campaign pretty much admits to lying.
Is that like the Latest word in Liberal Land?
Anything else you have?
How many Pastors were at his meeting?
What does it matter? 100 weren’t going to endorse him. Of the 100 invited, not all even accepted the invitation.
Fair enough. He does not get the endorsement of the Pastors.
I did look into it. He does get a one on one with them and apparently considered that an endorsement.
I will concede that is specious at best.
:^)
Sharpton is Barack's House Negro.
There is nothing to explain. If only a handful were going to endorse the campaign shouldn’t announce until they are completely reliable. A smaller number of pastors is actually more persuasive to most voters if they can give a more intimate, passionate defense of the candidate and his program. No one is going to care how many were at the meeting.
"Tax Man" Sharpton is Obama's voice in da hood.
Then the campaign should have announced “Black pastors to endorse trump.” Without giving a specific number. They didn’t.
