In a TV debate, Egyptian intellectual Dr. Mamoun Fendy compared the Arab and Islamic communities in Europe to the ghettoes of the Jews prior to WWII and presented an extreme position: "that it's possible that the Europeans will do to the Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews." The debate aired on Sky News Arabia on November 19, 2015.

Following are excerpts:

Mamoun Fandy: Let me say something somewhat extreme about the Muslims living in the West, and I hope that we are talking about a worst case scenario. We have a "geography of extremism" in the West today. The Arab and Islamic communities in Western cities are closed communities, just like the Jewish communities before the World War – ghettos, or closed and insular communities, which do not assimilate. Hitler's attitude toward the Jews is very similar to the Europeans' attitude today toward the Muslims.

I’m pretty binary in my arguments when necessary. The only issue I’m trying to point out is that yes, Judaism is a religion and its adherents are called Jews. However, Jews are also a race. After all, were not the disciples Jews, yet Christian?

The thing is, “Jew” is a label for both a race and a religion. One can be a Jew but not Jewish, and one can be Jewish, but not a Jew, but most are both.

This is also interesting. It looks like I at least have history on my side. No wonder I was a bit taken back by those who disagree with me on, of all places, freerepublic. I felt my original statement was akin to saying the sun sets in the west.

The statement “claims that Jews are a different race” just kind of jumps out at you doesn't it.
Stupid article by a geneticist with an obvious agenda.
Jews are either part of the human race, or they are not.
Once again try doing some real research on human evolution,
there are many genetic variations in the human race, that doesn't make them separate species.

Your whole argument reminds me of the German political position in the 1930’s and 1940’s that the Germans were a separate and superior race, all others were untermensch.
Your argument holds about as much fact as theirs did.
You give two articles, both of which use dodge phrases and words such as, might, may, could, we think, our theory, while you chose to ignore all other research and and accepted literature on the subject.
You chose a paper and theory that is currently being disputed by some of the premier researchers in the field of genetics.
Just as a matter of interest, did you know that black people are more disposed to sickle cell anemia?
Does that make them a different race; NO, it's just a evolutionary adaptation to the conditions that they have lived in for generations..

My argument is that there are different races. “Jew” is one of them. This is starting to remind me of arguments I have with liberals. They argue what they have read between the lines in my posts while ignoring the lines themselves. And what they read between the lines is solely false inference.

I’m arguing a very, VERY simple point: “Jew” is a name for a race of people. “Jew” is also a name for a religious group.
