BTW....There is no question that Assad is a bad dude...so was his daddy. Over the decades, (and I have been around for a while) Various US envoys have tried to reason with both of them, tried to get him to act responsibly, but all efforts failed, over and over..
His ouster would be a great thing if, his country could sort out their various tribal and sectarian issues, but they can’t and that is why we have a civil war there now.
Clinton’s state department tried to force him out, thinking that his ouster would bring reformation and peace, but it’s obvious to me at least that this will never occur in my lifetime. What happened in Egypt would happen in Syria but it would result in total collapse. Where Egypt managed after some effort to regain control.
This won’t occur in Syria until they are ready to do so.
