Outrage as military vehicles, equipment taken from officers in wake of Obama order

Valuable vehicles and equipment are being yanked from law enforcement agencies across the country by the Obama administration in the wake of the president’s post-Ferguson order -- as sheriffs and lawmakers tell FoxNews.com the equipment is needed, and losing it could put officers and the communities they serve in danger.

"These things are useful tools and the president taking them away will put more officers in jeopardy and at risk of harm or even death. I don’t know how he can sleep at night knowing his actions will have those repercussions," Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., told FoxNews.com.

President Obama issued Executive Order 13688 in January after the 2014 riots in Ferguson, Mo., amid concerns about the "militarization" of the police fueling a heavy-handed response.

My town must have 4 of those post-9/11 Ford SUVs.

Waste of resources.

"Hand them over to local National Guard detachments. (let the police keep a copy of the keys, but have to clear use with the NG, of if the SHTF and the NG ends up on the wrong side, at least there will be a chance to get a few of them."

"...and the NG [National Guard] ends up on the wrong side?" See comment #59.

I'm not in favor of police having MRAPS and the like (I just don't see why'd they ever need them, if things get *that* bad then call in the National Guard), but you sound rather unhinged. The vast majority of Americans don't know a dead child or dead grandmother or dead dog as a result of a police encounter. The vast majority of Americans have never experienced a "wrong house raid" (Cato Institute map). Most cops aren't itching to put a boot on your throat for no reason. 1027 people have been killed by police this year (source) -- that's .0000032% of the population. Not exactly a holocaust.

If a speeding ticket causes you to not longer care if a cop "gets a face full of 9mm," then you're a lousy piece of shit. Sorry.

"They charged a Chicago cop with FIRST DEGREE MURDER, today, for shooting some kid 16 times. The thug kept shooting AFTER the kid was on the ground, curled in a fetal position. The city paid the family $5,000,000 before they even got lawyered up. They are afraid to release the dashcam tape. The killer has been on the street 15 years. Everyone is surprised, shocked even."

Chicago, huh. Was the "victim" an aspiring rapper and about to go to college? I don't know if you've been paying attention, but a certain demographic tends to flip out and start burning cities down when that kind of dash-cam footage is released, whether the shooting was justified or not.

What you wanna bet when Obama federalizes the police, these items — and MUCH, MUCH more — mysteriously reappear?

I half wonder if that’s the endgame — “if you want your toys back, federalize.”

At that point, I doubt ANYONE would be getting any pension payment from any agency gov't or local. All bets are off at that point.

I'm talking about the point where you survive on your MRE's and such.

Guessing the Terrorist in Chief decided whitey would use them against the #BLM aka his civilian army and potentially against the terrorist invaders he’s bringing in.

Bingo. 0dunga was okay with militarized police until he found out how ready they were to take it to his BROTHAS in Ferguson before B*TCH stood them down.

Can you cite an example of a municipal or county police force using an M1A1 Abrams tank?

There are "civilian" equivalents. They may lack the main gun of an M1A1, but they are armored vehicles nonetheless. I'm not sure why a civilian police force would need something like that.

And in any case, my comment was meant tongue-in-cheek, which might be obvious if you read it again.

You're making my point. They are going to crucify Jason Van Dyke, and the whole country is going to cheer the destruction of one of your bros.

They released the tape, this afternoon. Go to Chicago and announce you're a cop, and the little rapper had it coming. Six of your JBTs will be carrying you by the handles. Try to get it on tape. It will get a lot of hits on Goregrish.

And I'll smile.

. . . the same BLM that superceded the local sheriff's authority at the Bundy ranch and came within an eyelash of attacking civilians

"Mr. Bundy, we're from the government, and we're here to help you."

If they want to be in the military, let them be in the military. The sheriff doesn’t need a HMMWV, MRAP, M113, etc. What’s next, BFV? M1A1?

Glad to see I am not the only one who thinks that. Meanwhile, here in Massachusetts, the Chief’s Association is thinking up EVERY MEANS POSSIBLE to reduce veteran’s preference.

Police would be doing themselves a BIG favor by interacting with nice people they meet at the coffee shop, bank, newsstand, or town diner.
It would also help them to drop their confrontational attitudes and discard tactical / tacticool gear for everyday patrol.

“Were you really expecting the various police departments to lead an insurgency against military rule?”

Are you expecting our soldiers and Marines to act like the Gestapo?

“when Obola declares martial law and turns them over to his #BLACKLIESMATTER civilian army.”

#BLACKLIESMATTER is a joke. What President Buckwheat will unleash is thousands of 10 to 16-year-old kids who will be throwing rocks and bottles and coming straight at you to kill you and your families. People better wrap their heads around the idea that they’ll need to open fire on manipulated and innocent children to protect themselves. It’s what the communist and jihadist monsters do to advance their agenda. They don’t care about children; you do because of your Christian culture, and they will take advantage of that fact.
