Turkey's downing of a Russian fighter plane shouldn't lead to further wartime escalation in the region, President Barack Obama insisted at a press conference Tuesday.
But he maintained Turkey had a right to defend its airspace and charged that Russian air activity near the Turkey-Syria border has been an "ongoing problem."

Russia didn’t attack Turkey...Turkey attacked Russia by shooting down that plane. Turkey is not an ally and we don’t owe them a damn thing.
Turkey is a member of NATO. They are most certainly an ally.
Turkey also supports ISIS. Erdogan is an ally of Obama but not the U.S.
Who cares if they’re a member of NATO? That means nothing. NATO attacked Christian Serbia to come to the aid of Islamists.
I wish nothing but the worst for Turkey.
“Turkey is a member of NATO. They are most certainly an ally.”

On paper, yes. But in reality that old saying applies ... “with ‘friends’ like this, who needs enemies”. Turkey and its president have been doing business with ISIS from the beginnings of ISIS enabling ISIS to have its evil designs financed. Turkey has also conducted military operations (mostly aerial bombing) against the Kurds as those same Kurds attempted, with considerable success, to battle ISIS. Turkey refused to allow the US to open a northern front from Turkey when we invaded IRAQ, certainly costing American lives.
I agree with CrimsonTidegirl, Turkey is allied with Obama...not with America. And I guess you consider yourself an ally of Turkey also.
Sorry, but via treaty, Turkey is an ally of the United States. You can argue with it all you want, and I personally wonder why in the world Turkey was ever admitted to NATO, but facts are facts. Maybe they don’t act like one, but “on paper”, they are, and when it comes to treaties, thats what matters.
So take your condescension and stuff it.
Very well stated.
