Turkish warplanes have reportedly shot down a Russian military aircraft on the border with Syria.
Russia's Interfax news agency cited the Russian defence ministry as saying that a Su-24 had crashed in northern Syria, and that its two pilots had ejected.

Not necessarily. Major/super powers have had aircraft shot down in the airspace of other countries and they couldn’t do a thing. The Pakistanis downed several Soviet aircraft during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. More than one USAF spy plane was shot down by the Soviets and pretty much nothing happened.
Very true. Russia’s response may range from silence to full and total payback. History unfolding is a sight to see.
Talk about screwing the pooch...Turkey is in for some serious blowback...not what we wanted to happen here.
The comment was in reference to the previous shoot down by Turkey, not the breaking news today.
Damn. This was of course stupid. I posted something about earlier incident.
I can’t delete it myself, I don’t know if it is appropriate to ask Admin Moderator to delete it.
Russia shot down Korean flight 007 in 1983, and they armed the Russians in Ukraine who shot down Malaysian Flight 17 without any serious fall out. Putin even denied the obvious facts.
I see. What do you think is going to happen now? Things are really building up.
the video is on zerohedge of the shootdown. its definitely no drone...unfortunately
also it looks like the plane crashed in syria. it seems turkey has said 5 miles inside syria is considered turkish airspace...not too sure putin will agree with that.
all conspiracies aside...this does have to possibility of escalating ala WW1 and getting real ugly real fast. turkey will play the NATO card (altho if i reclall they didnt support the iraq war with invasion forces so maybe they could be told to go pound sand)...i just pray that cooler heads will prevail
also i pray the pilots are okay...thats the last thing the world needs is a isis murder video of them...
I don’t know. What I’d hope is that all the nations involved in combat operations in Syria would agree to strictly defined areas of operations. That would deconflict these types of problems.
They cant claim another nations airspace
Not a problem, Vlad will kindly return the favor.
“i just pray that cooler heads will prevail”
praying with you.
Obama’s best friend Turkey is protecting ISIS and going after the Kurds
Shoot! Chute!! Chute!!! Oooohhhh shoooot . . . . !!!!
Another notch up the scale to world war.
They’ll probably just expand the engagement envelope of Syria’s S-300 SAMs into Turkey (lock-on Turkish F-16s flying inside Turkey). That would keep the Turkish F-16s away from Russian ground attack operations.
Putin’s forces have been violating the airspace and territorial waters of many nations in the last three years. Their pilots have turned off their transponders. This is all well known. I would not give Putin the benefit of the doubt. Let the facts come out and I suspect we’ll see that Putin’s forces were acting arrogant and without regard to Turkey’s airspace. The chauvinism Putin encourages in Russia today leads to these types of miscalculations.
“Theyâll probably just...(lock-on Turkish F-16s flying inside Turkey).”
Russia already did so on numerous occasions, which is why Turkey began shooting down the Russian warplanes who fail to respond to the warnings against incursions into Turkish airspace.
Bttt
Russia and Turkey have been at odds for centuries and they are certainly not on the same side of things in the ME, even if they are shooting at some of the same people.
