I suspect you're right. But that's not what Donald said. He claimed to have witnessed "thousands and thousands". Out in public. Cheering. And he's repeated that claim.

Maybe he's confused, or maybe he's lying. I suspect the latter, but for the moment we can be generous and presume the former. Here's the problem either way - it takes the focus off where it should be (the disloyalty you rightly identify) and puts it squarely on his head. We lose control of the conversation because he can't control his mouth.
