Donald Trump has returned to the lead in Iowa while Ted Cruz has now surged past Ben Carson into second place. Carson has slipped from a first-place tie into third.
While Iowa's Republicans generally feel Trump is ready to be commander-in-chief, Cruz scores even better on this measure, boosted by support from very conservative and Tea Party Iowans who feel he is ready to assume the post. That's more than say so about Trump, Carson, Rubio and Jeb Bush.
Since last month, Ted Cruz has gained ground -- and Ben Carson has lost ground -- among some key voting groups in Iowa: evangelicals, Tea Party supporters, those who are very conservative and older voters. And while Trump still leads among some of these groups, it's Cruz who is ahead among the very conservative, and Trump leads Cruz by just two points among evangelical voters.
Cruz's move has come directly at the expense of Carson, as nearly one-quarter of his voters switched.

And I think Cruz will soon pass Trump among the evangelicals, who tend to be social conservatives. Trump did not attend the family forum the other night in Iowa, while Cruz was there (along with most of the other candidates) and was very impressive.
Ummmmmmm.....exactly what has Trump won? Ted Cruz won in Texas to become the US Senator from Texas, where no one gave him much of a chance to win when he entered the race.
Who cares about NH or Iowà ? Crap..!!
I think it will come down to Cruz, Rubio, and Trump as the three finalists for the nomination.
My first reaction reading your post was: "The good, the bad and ugly". That said all three are preferred to the current occupant or any Clinton, or any Bush, or Sanders, or Mitt, or McCain.
Cruz has the best organization of any. I support Cruz and I’m happy to see him rise but I really think that a Trump Cruz ticket would probably be the best bet. They would compliment each other very well and Cruz would get a solid spring board. If Cruz rises to the top spot I will be happy of course but either scenario is fine with me. I think the duo of Trump and Cruz would be an unstoppable populist intellectual powerhouse.
So the top 4 will get some points towards the nomination?
And he has lost every other thing he has attempted. Everything. Worse, he even voted to support TPP and Obama’s Iran deal. Until his recent flip he wanted 500% increase in H1B and he wants amnesty for illegals, or, at a minimum, he plays cute and won’t explain what he wants. Loser across the board. Besides, he’s preachy and comes across unlikeable. Probably the most pathetic picture of him is standing next to Trump in wrinkled, oversized suite. Not presidential, not now.
Of course Trump didn’t attend the Forum Friday night - he had a rally earlier that day and had to be in Birmingham the next - he can’t be in 3 places at once. He offered his apologizes for not attending. Some people grasp at straws. Bush didn’t attend either because he had a prior engagement. It means nothing!
Kasich is where he deserves to be. Rubio second in NH does not sound right
Treat employers if illegal aliens so harshly that they become viscerally fearful of employing somebody illegally.
Watch out Carson - Cruz is going to cut into that 19%.
Iowa is not ideal Trump territory. If he “wins” (and with caucuses, I’m not sure what that means), I’ll be impressed. Usually some Christian “conservative” wins Iowa, ask President Santorum or President Huckabee how important that was.
I expect Trump to blow out the doors here in NH. After that, South Carolina will decide if it’s over or if it will be a longer slog.
Senator Cruz is against TPP and is now on record that he will be voting against it. H1-B1 was a ruse to show the hypocrisy on the gang of 8 bill by adding an amendment to show what the Dems and the GOPe were up to. Ted Cruz does not support illegal immigration, has called for a freeze on H1-B1 and he does not support TPP.
As for the press attacking him. I know Cruz doesn't send out tweets calling people idiots or use expletives at rallies or resort to personal insults. But, he does have a habit of going into the lions den and cutting the press down with his intellect. Watch the Chuck Todd interview or the Katie Couric interview with Cruz and you can see how their attacks don't stick to Cruz and how home comes out making them look like fools. As far as messaging to the voters, I'm not worried like Reagan Cruz will take his message to the people by going over the media. We are so lucky that Hillary is running if Cruz can be the cutthroat conservative in this race he's going to topple her and won the presidency.
The point is, Trump has won exactly ZERO elections. ZIT. NOTHING. All he’s done is lead in the polls just like Giuliani did, and Giuliani led the polls for longer. Difference is, Giuliani had actually WON TWICE in New York. Trump has yet to win even a single election in his life.
