It is less painful than execution by Firing squad, electrocution, hanging, or lethal injection. It is why it was invented....to shorten the “discomfort.” Frankly, if we are going to go back in history, why not bring back “Drawn and Quartered.” THAT would be fitting for terrorists.
By the way, the last guillotined person was executed in the 1970’s. Not that long ago.
Bingo.
A bullet in the brain is too kind and neat. Drawn and quartered would serve as an example of what happens to terrorists. Make the executions public!
Now that you mention it, the 1970s were sort of medieval.
The guillotine wasn't even invented until the 18th century, well outside what is considered "Medieval" but grease up that blade with some bacon and they're good to go.
You are correct. Better solution than a bad axman taking 3-4 wacks to get the job done.
Citizens carrying would be a quicker and easier defense but yes this idea looks just fine for Moslem terrorists. Quick merciful compared to what they really deserve. And makes a good show so might possibly help some in deterrence - will certainly be worthwhile trying a few hundred thousand times as a trial If it doesn’t work as well as it looks then try crucifixion. If it’s good enough for Christians in Moslem Isis land, it’s good enough for Moslems in Christendom. To Hell with the dambed basturds!
When the article said medieval, I was thinking burning at the stake as they executed Jaques De Molay.
LePen is yesterday’s man. He’s almost 90 and so his career is pretty much over. Even when he was active, he’d say embarrassing or outrageous things (the Nazi gas chambers were “a detail of the history of WWII”). He was expelled from the FN and his daughter heads his party now.
Just yesterday, I suggested that Marine Le Pen should quietly conduct a poll in France to see what the public think about both restoring the death penalty, and what means should be used to carry it out.
While the guillotine is dramatic, that may work against it and thus the restoration of the death penalty, which is why the poll should be split in two.
The first part of the poll is only about the restoration of the death penalty.
The second part of the poll should suggest means, and might not even mention the guillotine, but instead lethal injection, hanging, and the firing squad. Electrocution and the gas chamber are too expensive.
The typical person on the street might support hanging or the firing squad, but lethal injection leaps out for the same reason it became popular overnight in the US. It is a clean and sanitary means, without mess and fuss.
The trick of the poll is that yes, it is designed to find out attitudes; but it is also to find out if the death penalty could be restored in France if it was “less traumatic” to the public.
Importantly, if the return of capital punishment is popular, it would be a natural for Marine Le Pen, as she and her party would have great success running on a “law and order” campaign.
As an adamant bonus, the EU would bitterly object to the idea, and demand that France obey its dictates and not restore capital punishment. This could also work to Le Pen’s advantage, as hers is a Euroskeptic party.
Cut off the head but bury the body with a pigs head! LePen has suggested this and I bet many in France would back this—last decapitation 1977 (A North African murdered a bunch of kids in France and lost his head). Maybe its time to bring it back. UK better rethink its gibit as well and the US bring back “Old Sparky” electric Chair.
Yes. Impaling.
We can make it hi-tech with timer controlled servos/stepper motors.
We should put the terrorists heads on a stake.
Some days later they should be decapitated.
