Donald Trump's rhetoric since the Paris terrorist attacks appears to have helped him with GOP primary voters, according to most polls. But Republican insiders are concerned that his words could come back to haunt the party as it seeks to appeal to a broader audience.
In recent days, Trump has suggested that the United States could have "no choice" but to close mosques. Even more controversially, he told an NBC News reporter he would "certainly" implement a system to register and track Muslims, though it was unclear whether he was referring to new immigrants or all Muslims on American soil.
"Long term, that is not something we will do or should do," said GOP strategist Ed Rollins, who has worked for the past presidential campaigns of Republicans including former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, in 2008, and former Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.) in 2012. Asked about the implications of such rhetoric for the GOP at large, Rollins suggested that Trump's candidacy from the beginning has posed problems.
"There is a lot of danger in some of the things that Trump has said, for a party that needs to reach out to Hispanics, needs to reach out to young voters, needs to reach out to women. Some of the rhetoric will be put back into play in the fall, and it is not positive," he said.
Those are the dangers that recently elected Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) seemed to be trying to guard against when he said that House legislation to halt Syrian refugees from entering the United States would "not have a religious test, only a security test."

No, you see, unlike the duplitous “professional” GOPE/RINO (pardon the redundancy) politicians who say one thing to get elected then stab the base in the back once in office (time and again), Trump spoke his mind and said precisely what he meant to say. The “professional” GOPE/RINO politicians do not understand this “saying what you mean to say”. To them, truth and the electoral process are incompatible.
Lefties' & Muslims' heads explode. Film at 11...
Amen!
Until we reverse the Islamic invasion of USA ( and Europe) and and them back to their own countries ( you know. The 56 nations the Muslims have already infiltrated/ invaded and taken over the same way) -— we are in great danger.
So the GOPe believes people who sympathize with Islamic terrorism and support importing more potential terrorists are going to vote Republican under any circumstances EVER?
What maximum percentage of Muslim immigration supporters does Ed Rollins forecast to vote for a GOP candidate? 2%?
And are those votes in swing states or in hardcore Dem strongholds?
What would be the purpose of the Republican Party’s existence, if it wants to pander to weak-minded fools and leftist America-haters? The Democrats have those niches covered.
The GOP has done the hurt to themselves... ignoring their base and coddling obama... enough to set Trump’s rise and election.
Since when has the GOP ever worried about how Trump is going to hurt them? They have done everything they can to get him to leave the campaign trail...
I hope that Trump wipes the streets in every city in America up with these critters, and take the media and talking heads with him when he does....
GO TRUMP GO!!!
This just shows how out of touch the party is with
the base.
Hurt who? Those Muslim’s aint going to Vote GOP—They are Democrats down to their Burquas and knives. Look at all the copycat head choppers—all Democrats! No Conservatives here.
Ed Rollins is an even bigger POS than Karl Rove! Plus he hasn’t won a campaign since Yebbie was being bounced on GHWB’s knee! And yet, like Rove, Fox has him on as a “contributor,” “strategist” or whatever they call their GOPe syncophants.
Yes, surely those comments by Trump will hurt. They will hurt gopes and Democrats. Among the voting citizenry however, they will enhance.
Did you mean to post that to someone else? Doesn’t seem to be responsive to what I wrote in #3.
Sorry about my post—I got it mixed up Saved by grace.
Eff Muslims
