The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Gu Xiaojie, said in Abuja that the trade volume between China and Africa as at 2014 exceeded $220 billion.This is contained in a statement on the forthcoming ââ¬Å6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperationâ (FOCAC) signed by Xiaojie.
Xiaojie said that China had been Africaâs largest trading partner for six years in a row since 2009, adding that China now had diplomatic ties with 50 African countries.
He said China and Africa enjoy an increased cordial relationship with ââ¬Ågrowing political mutual trust, roaring fruitful economic cooperation, enhancing consultation and coordination in international affairs.

Essentially, China is filling the void left by the fall of the Soviet Union—the USSR up until 1991 did a lot of trade with a number of African countries.
Is this supposed to be a BAD thing???
Yes. Whenever China trades, it's assumed here that it's a bad thing.
And African leaders encourage it, because China builds infrastructure and buys raw materials without demanding adoption of environmental regulations or legalization of homosexuality as Western nations do.
