Barbara Walters on Her Interview With Melania Trump: ‘Maybe Because She’s So Beautiful, We Don’t Expect Her to Be as Smart as She Is’
Barbara Walters opened up about meeting Donald Trump’s family on Good Morning America Friday, before her anticipated 20/20 interview with the political candidate and his brood airs on ABC.
In a special clip from her sit-down, Walters speaks with First Lady hopeful Melania Trump, a woman she was surprised by, as she told Robin Roberts.
“Maybe because she’s so beautiful, we don’t expect her to be as smart as she is,” Walters said, before contending, “If a man said this I’d kill him.”
In the sneak peek, Melania – who was joined by her husband – told Walters that she supports Donald “100 percent,” despite keeping away from the campaign trail.
“We have a 9-year-old son together, Barron, and I’m raising him, and he needs a parent at home,” she said.
The 45-year-old Slovenia native said she encouraged Donald to run for election in 2016 because “I know what he can do and what he will do for America.”
Melania said the pair’s marriage is one of equals (although Donald insisted the former model wears the pants) and admitted she shares her opinions with him after the presidential debates.
“She’s told me a couple times during the debates ... she’s said you could tone it down a little bit on occasion,” Donald said.

Just saw it. He is more and more relaxed. But will have to watch his back for slippery media types.
Please don’t think that Trump has this race in the bag. I’d like to think he will will the nomination, but take nothing for granted.

I’ll be watching although not much of fan of Walters.
Trump probably asked for Walters because he can control the interview.
I agree he has the race in the bag. He will have to fight like hell but is poll numbers are now in the low to mid 40’s when you include the secondary vote choices.
I would not be surprised at all if he crested 50% in the next 8-12 weeks.
Trump is a competitor like no other and the candidates simply do not know how to compete like he does.
