Donald Trump hated wind farms — until an Iowa voter asked
Washington Post ^ | November 19, 2015 | Philip Bump

Patricia Scalabrini, whose husband works for a local wind turbine manufacturer, wanted to know if Trump supports subsidies for the industry. The company that employs her husband, TPI, moved into a factory that was abandoned when Maytag moved its operations to Mexico. TPI employs about 800 people in Newton.

It is helped by subsidies, in the form of the "production tax credit," which gives energy producers tax breaks based on how many kilowatt-hours of electricity they generate using renewable methods. The PTC has been continually renewed for short periods, meaning that it often becomes a political bargaining chip. It is important to continued rapid expansion of the wind industry, and therefore to the woman's husband's job.

Trump began by saying, "Well, I'm okay with it." (He then said that he "know[s] a lot about wind," prompting some tittering in the audience.) He noted that it can be hard for wind to be competitive in energy production particularly when prices for fossil fuels are so low, so "you need subsidies." (He paused to marvel: "It's an amazing thing when you think -- you know, where they can, out of nowhere, out of the wind, they make energy.")

The moderator pressed him, you're okay with the subsidies? Trump replied, "I'm okay with subsidies, to an extent. I don't like subsidies when you have $19 trillion in debt." That said, he was clearly supportive: "If oil goes up [in price], it's great. But if oil stays low, it's a very tough business."...

Trump, in fact, does know a lot about wind. A few years ago, Donald Trump wanted to build a golf course in Scotland. There was just one problem: The Scottish government had licensed an off-shore wind farm near the course, which Trump worried would ruin the views.

McCain ran in 2008. At that time, Donald Trump was a registered Democrat. He didn't switch to Republican until 2009. Indeed he did endorse him, but why? He really liked Hillary Clinton, described himself as a "big fan" of Hillary, and thought that not picking Hillary as a running mate hurt Obama.

His words were: "The fact is that Obama went limping across the finish line. He should have chosen Hillary, it would have been a much different race, I believe. Right now, it looks to me like McCain is probably winning."

And Trump only likes winners. Perhaps that is why, even as a registered Democrat at the time and a big fan of Hillary, he endorsed McCain.

As for endorsing Romney -- Trump switched to the Republican party in 2011. Romney was and is a functional Democrat registered as a Republican. Trump's endorsement of Romney was par for the course.

Correction: Trump began supporting the Republican party exclusively in 2011 (he switched to Republican in 2009); up to then, for the previous 21 years, he sent as much money to Democrats — more, actually — than to Republicans. As the “cost of doing business,” of course. What is the cause of liberty compared to financial gain?

His public endorsement is worth more than his own single vote.

And I really don’t care how he was registered as I doubt that either party represents him any more than either party represents me.

What you and some others on FR don’t get is that the side benefit to electing Trump is the destruction of the republican party as we know it.

You can warn me all day long that Trump isn’t “conservative” enough or that he once did or said things that don’t fit with the “conservative” agenda but I don’t care.

I have read his books, I have watched just about every speech, and read just about every news story about him. I know more about him than I ever knew about Bush, McCain, or Romney and he passes MY test for being conservative enough to get the job done that I want done.

He is not ideologically pure. He is not a champion of conservative causes. He is not on the “right side” of some of the issues.

He is, however, truthful, loyal, tough, and disciplined. He loves this country and appreciates the same things about it that I do. He is a pragmatist, he sees things the way they are, not how he wishes they were, and he knows how to get things done. He knows how to set a goal, he knows how to hire people capable of achieving that goal, and he knows how to manage them to fulfill that goal. That talent is the talent all of the others, including Cruz, do not have experience with. We don’t know how effective they would be at doing the job of being president.

So, they can be the purest conservative in the country but if they are not effective in getting the job done then how do we gain anything?

I don’t attack the other candidates, except for Jeb and Rubio because they deserve derision, but I will correct any untruths posted about Trump.

John Roberts was touted as a very pure, unadulterated, conservative when he was nominated for SC Justice. I credit him and his likewise super intelligent, uber conservative supporters with the horrible Obamacare mess America now endures. GO TRUMP.

BS. You can take it up with Rush Limbaugh who claims no one ever received as much flak as Donald Trump.

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/09/01/trump_rolls_on_undeterred

“Trump has received more incoming than any human being I’ve ever seen.”

Rush has been around a very long time and has seen everything dirty in politics. Conservatives will trust Rush more than some Trump-hating anonymous nobody ‘piasa’.

Shake your head in despair then but not for what you perceive people believe but what you think they believe. Clearly, the problem is not with conservatives that choose Tromp, the problem is in your head.

Your problem is you believe you’re better than millions of others when it is evident you’re deficient.

Here’s an example from your post #96:

“There is also ample proof that Trump has a history of leaning moderate to left. But you can skip it if you choose.”

No, there isn’t ample proof and you’ve provided zilch to back up your BS.

Here’s the kind of crap you believe:

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/11/they-lied-media-edited-video-to-claim-donald-trump-said-to-register-all-muslims-video/

“Trump said, “Oh, I would certainly implement that, absolutely,” and that’s how they report that Trump “demands a database and registration for all Muslims,” when he didn’t say it! He never said it. It’s a Journalism 101 trick. It’s right out of the manual they teach you at the first year of journalism school in how to destroy political opponents or powerful people you don’t like. It’s that common a technique.”

That makes you a fool. Let’s emphasize that fact, you are a F-O-O-L for believing what the liberal media says about Donald Trump. You’re the kind of sucker they feed on.

Excellent point.

His integrity is impeccable and has been proven beyond any doubt on hundreds and hundreds of posts on the internet.

You and I measure integrity on vastly different scales, obviously. No quantity of Internet posts will change what I've seen and heard him say with my own eyes and ears.

You contributed nothing but 'mouthiness'.

Of course, since I happen to disagree with you.

Given your adoration for the Trumpster, it's laughable that you criticize "people that engage their mouths before engaging their brains" as he's done so many times over the course of his campaign.
