I’ve watched this happen from within and without the ivy walls for about 55 years now. Actually, I matriculated Syracuse University 61 years ago, and I think scolasticism was a bit tougher then. Your competition for grades was Korean vets who were there with a purpose in mind. The year I entered, Syracuse U tuituion was $750, and you could work for your meals in the dining halls. My room was $60 a semester, in WWII Butler buildings put up to handle the WWII vets.
The Freshman English would've put a real big grammar-Nazi red mark on that error, for sure. And maybe that should have been "scholarship," eh? And "tuition," too. Egad!
