With 106 of the stateâs 120 counties in his column, Republican Gov.-elect Matt Bevin said the stateâs electoral map last week represented âa cry for help from the people of Kentuckyâ during his remarks to the Republican Party of Kentuckyâs state central committee on Saturday.
The meeting of top GOP officials doubled as a rallying cry ahead of next yearâs legislative races, with Republicans vying for control of the stateâs House of Representatives for the first time since 1921.
The celebratory mood at the Ramada Plaza in Louisville on Saturday offered a stark contrast with the feeling among Democratic leaders, who huddled behind closed doors at party headquarters on Friday to discuss retaining their four-seat majority in the House after Republicans won five of the stateâs seven constitutional offices Nov. 3.
Bevin recognized the scrutiny he will face from state Democrats, who have held the reins of power in Kentuckyâs executive branch for all but one four-year term since 1971.
The last Republican governor, Ernie Fletcher, limped out of office in 2007 following an investigation led by then-Attorney General Greg Stumbo, who ran unsuccessfully as a lieutenant governor candidate that year, into merit system abuses by the administration.

There are video clips of Bevin’s speech at the link.
Job #1 is to defund the left at any and all opportunities. They run on government money and forced rent. Don’t let them have the resources to get back in the game.
There are three left standing on their side: Andy Beshear, Alison Lundergan Grimes, and Greg Stumbo. Stumbo and Grimes are of the old Lundergan faction. Unfortunately Grimes narrowly survived but hopefully we will get Stumbo next year, and it appears Bevin is well aware of the threat of the young Beshear getting the AG post to be a potential thorn in the side and will be on the lookout.
I left off Yarmuth but he really has no influence outside of Louisville, and if Stumbo is removed so can he if we hold the majority through the time of the next redistricting.
It is KY: we shall see if much changes.
Jennifer Lawrence won’t be pleased . . .
Oh it doesn’t matter. She knows “how those people are” already. She’s been enlightened, you know.
Could it be, though, that the people of KY are sick of the Beshears, the Lundergan/Grimes, and Mr. Stumbo, just as so many do not want the Clinton’s or the Bush’s back in office. They are currently suffering mightily from the state having been run by these people for so long and are looking through the propaganda to the reality of how things really are. Bevin has his work cut out for him.
