In an interview that aired on CBSâs â60 Minutesâ Sunday, newly elected Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) 58% said he hopes to lead a House of Representatives that is âfunctioning again.â
âI think wiping the slate clean was about wiping the slate clean in Congress and getting Congress, the House functioning again,â Ryan said.
However, part of that Ryan said will require finding âcommon groundâ with the Obama White House.
âLook, if we can find common ground, we can on highways, we will on funding the government, hopefully we can on tax policy,â Ryan said. âThose are three things that will produce certainty in this economy in the next few months. Letâs go do that.â
Ryan also vowed that there would be no mass deportation of illegal immigrants while he was serving as House Speaker.

I don’t know if we can rely on the SC to back the law. They have a poor record lately of doing so. I think we can expect they will act along ideological lines rather than legal ones.
Did you honestly think that ditching Bhoner would suddenly cure all ills?
....what a shock....
Good grief.
Ryan is just speaking truth.
ICE is part of the executive branch. Barack Obama is head of the executive branch. ICE and the federal courts would handle deportations. This President is not going to allow mass deportation. The House, and Ryan as Speaker, have no power to force such action.
Ryan is a realist and respects the Constitution. You want him to work miracles.
As expected. Nothing will change in Washington.
Does it ever occur to ‘us’ that category error is our primary dysfunction?
The GOP is the problem. Electing them is just shuffeling deck chairs.
You’re the one that wanted him gone.
You’re the one that should be celebrating... if you were honest.
Ryan also vowed that there would be no mass deportation of illegal immigrants while he was serving as House Speaker.

Well, then, we will need a new Speaker as of January of 2017
I am celebrating that hes gone. I am also the one that said that he would be replaced with a clone because the GOP is liberal and gutless.
But bhoner is still gone and Ryan is or CAN do no worse. Bhoner was a 100% sellout. Ryan is a 100% sellout.
But Bhoner is gone. One less POS in DC. Whats the downside exactly? Ryan was already there selling out with Bhoner. Now thee is one less.
Win.
“thereâs no downside to electing lesser evils at all”
What makes you think anyone thought he was the lesser of two evils?
Worthless.
“Well so he has rolled already.”
He didn’t have to roll. He was already in place. You shouldn’t get mad at him; it is the Republican party who wanted him. They are the traitors. Ryan advertised where he played.
“Ryan is a realist and respects the Constitution. You want him to work miracles.”
It is called a miracle to enact laws and expect the Executive Branch to enforce them?
Why have a Congress if all you do is expect miracles from them?
That is just plain nonsense in your statement.
If someone starts a high-profile campaign to unseat him in the 2016 elections, it will distract him from the idiocies he is planning to commit as Speaker in the meantime. When he loses his seatâif not beforeâthe House will have a new Speaker for sure!
Didn’t they? It’s what they said when he and Romney ran for president/VP. I fought with countless liberals here on that very issue. Still do. Always will till lightning strikes.
There you go. We take what we can get.
I think the test for Ryan is whether he passes bills with majority Dem support like Boehner did. That is just unacceptable.
But as long as INOs make up the majority of the Republican caucus- and they will until conservatives run against some in the general election- we’ll have RINO legislation.
“Ryan also vowed that there would be no mass deportation of illegal immigrants while he was serving as House Speaker.”
If Obama can issue an executive order to let them in, and Ryan doesn’t object at all, what makes him think that he can impact an executive order by Trump deporting them all?
