If it weren’t for Ted Cruz fighting the Gang of 8 bill, amnesty would already be the law of the land. The Gang of Eight bill passed the Senate and stalled in the House. The defeat of Eric Cantor probably had more to do with that than anything else.

The Gang of 8 fight happened in June of 2013. Eric Cantor didn’t leave office until August of 2014.
