Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer will serve as grand marshal of Gov.-elect Matt Bevinâs Inaugural Parade, Bevinâs team announced on Friday.
Meyer is one of only three living recipients of the Medal of Honor, the militaryâs highest decoration. On Sept. 8, 2009, the then-21-year-old Meyer is credited with saving 36 Marines from Taliban forces.
âIt is truly an honor to have Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant Dakota Meyer to serve as our Grand Marshall,â Bevin said in a press release. âWe want military veterans and others in uniform to be central figures at this inauguration. This will be a day of celebration and of honoring those who serve the Commonwealth.â
Joe Craft, owner of Alliance Resource Partners, and his fiancée, Kelly Knight, have signed on to serve as chairs of the Inaugural Committee.
Bevin said that as co-chairs of the Inaugural Committee, the couple âwill make us all proud to be Kentuckians.â
âThe Inauguration is an exciting time. Joe and I are Kentucky natives and are proud to do our part as we celebrate the beginning of what we believe will be a very successful term for Governor Bevin and for the Commonwealth,â Knight said in a statement. âWe are grateful for the members of the committee and all the other volunteers who have worked so tirelessly to bring this wonderful event to life.â
According to the transition team, inauguration events will begin just before midnight on Dec. 7 with a private swearing-in ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.
On Dec. 8, inaugural events will begin with a family worship service at 8:15 a.m. at Buck Run Baptist Church. A parade is scheduled to begin following the service at 10 a.m. Public events will conclude with the Frankfort Welcome Reception and Bluegrass Festival, according to the release.

“Meyer is one of only three living recipients of the Medal of Honor, the militaryââ¬â¢s highest decoration.”
Not so. There are currently 79 living recipients of the MOH from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq-Afghanistan.
You’re right...maybe the author meant just in Kentucky, but I can’t find that data.
As I was trying to look up the information, I found this guy was once engaged to Bristol Palin.
I heard this same (incorrect) statement on the “news” as well. Can’t they google “living congressional medal of honor recipients”?
They were going to be married in May but called it off. She announced in June that she was pregnant with his child.
I wonder if Bristol and Dakota have patched their relationship up or not.
Yes he was. It is assumed he is the baby daddy but I do not think he has ever affirmed that. Neither has she.
I was sorry to hear that it didn’t work out as I though Bristol had finally picked a real man to be her husband and help her raise her little boy. I have no idea what went down between them.
She announced in June that she was pregnant with his child.
His child? She never said who’s child it was, leading many to believe that it wasn’t Dakotas since the wedding was called off.
