Senator Marco Rubio is engaged in his signature âsay one thing do anotherâ move on amnesty and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, only this time Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul arenât letting him get away with it.
In the past few days both liberty-loving Senators have called out Rubio, with Ted Cruz being especially strong on Laura Ingrahamâs radio program.
âTalk is cheap. You know where someone is based on their actions,â Cruz told Ingraham.
As a voter, when politicians say things that are the exact opposite of what theyâve done in office, I treat that with a pretty healthy degree of skepticism,â Cruz said.
Senator Cruz went on to remind Ingrahamâs listeners that Rubio opposed âevery single oneâ of the proposed enforcement amendments to 2013 bill. âThe argument that we need to secure the border first was an argument I was making over and over againâ in 2013 said Cruz.
âThe Gang of Eight, they fought tooth and nail to try to jam this amnesty down the American peopleâs throat,â concluded Senator Cruz.
And Ted Cruz is right.
Marco Rubio must be crazy if he thinks conservatives wonât remember his role in crafting and ramming through the hated âGang of Eightâ amnesty for illegal aliens bill.
It is virtually Rubioâs only legislative âsuccessâ and with that alleged âsuccessâ came an unholy alliance with Democratic Senators Charles Schumer of New York, then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Obama.
And Marco Rubioâs role in that alliance with the far-Left open borders crowd was to destroy conservatives who opposed granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and also giving billions of dollars to far-Left racist groups like La Raza.
In an April 25, 2013 news release CHQ Chairman Richard A. Viguerie demanded that Rubio stop using the language and tactics of the Left against anyone who had questions about the Gang of Eight bill.
âConservatives who have sensible questions about the âGang of Eightâ amnesty for illegal aliens plan backed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio are finding out the hard way that the billâs supporters donât plan to engage in a polite Tea Room debate about the merits of the 700-plus page bill and its unworkable implementation,â said Mr. Viguerie.
Rubio and his fellow proponents of the âGang of Eightâ plan went from the billâs first hearing to full slash-and-burn attack mode by Sundayâs political talk shows, noted Viguerie.
âWhat bothers us is that he has gone from simply disagreeing with his friends to attacking them, using the same tactics and language the left uses when it attacks conservatives,â said Mr. Viguerie.
And Mr. Viguerie wasnât the only one to see that about Rubio.
Erick Erickson of RedState observed at that time that Marco Rubio was an active participant in the attacks on conservatives as âracists, slavery supporters, bigots, haters, baby killers, un-Christian, etc. They are waging a coordinated attack between Senator Rubioâs office and others against conservative stalwarts like the Heritage Foundation and Jim DeMint.â
The âtheyâ to whom Erickson refers appears to be an unholy alliance of establishment Republicans, business interests and New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, Illinois Democratic Senator Richard Durbin and a host of other left-leaning political operatives and interest groups.
To them, this was pure politics and they were backing the âGang of Eightâ bill and amnesty because they see in it an opportunity to rearrange the electoral map in their favor for at least a generation.
Now here is where what Mr. Viguerie said in 2013 intersects with what Marco Rubio is trying to pull off today.
Back in 2013 our fellow conservative, and long-time Rubio watcher, Florida political commentator Javier Manjarres of the Shark Tank and Hispolitica observed that, âWhat most people donât know about Rubio is that he has always supported a pathway to citizenship.â
Rubio can try to âdistance himselfâ from what he claims is his former position on amnesty and open borders all he wants to.
But Conservatives havenât forgotten that Rubio, was one of the architects of the hated âGang of Eightâ amnesty bill, that also gave billions to far-Left race-baiters like La Raza, and that he referred to conservative opponents as racists, slavery supporters, bigots, haters, baby killers, un-Christian, etc..
Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are right, Rubioâs current ploy doesnât mean he abandoned his support for amnesty â especially when he was speaking Spanish for a Spanish-speaking audience. It simply means that he is cynically trying to escape a position detested by the vast majority of Republican primary voters.
Viguerie.
On Hannity after the debate, I listened to Rubio say that illegals should have only green cards for 10 years after they are legalized.
He didn’t say what happened after that 10 years, but presumably they would apply for citizenship/resident status.
Rubio’s also the GOPe’s fair haired boy...
This is what happens when you have someone with divided foreign allegiances in a position of power.
The Founders were very wise - NBC!
I don’t necessarily disagree with you in Rubio’s case, but what about Hillary, Bernie, Bush, Kasich, etc.
They all were born here.
Some people are traitors to our Republic no matter where they were born.
Being a NBC just minimizes the possibility.
And he wants to be president to cement amnesty. His biggest funder is a rabid amnesty advocate.
