Actress Jennifer Lawrence says she's "embarassed" that she grew up in the same state as Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Lawrence, who has been on a crusade on Hollywood's gender pay gap, brought up the subject in an interview with Vogue published Wednesday night.
According to interviewer Jonathan Van Meter, the interview took place the day after Davis got out of jail, and Lawrence brought her up because she views Davis as the "lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky."
"Don't even say her name in this house," she told Van Meter before criticizing "all those people holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they're fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are."
The "Hunger Games" star went on to discuss her political upbringing and how they clash with her current world views.
"I was raised a Republican, but I just can't imagine supporting a party that doesn't support women's basic rights," she said. "It's 2015 and gay people can get married and we think that we've come so far, so, yay! But have we? I don't want to stay quiet about that stuff."
It also turns out that Van Meter was scooped by Entertainment Weekly on a choice Lawrence quote about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. She told Entertainment Weekly's Nicole Sperling in October that a Trump presidency "will be the end of the world," something she had previously said to Van Meter verbatim.
"My view on the election is pretty cut-and-dried: If Donald Trump is president of the United States, it will be the end of the world," she told Van Meter, though she added, "he's also the best thing to happen to the Democrats ever."
Jennifer must be auditioning to be a Dixie Chick.
Apparently
She’s an actress dunce whose hacked iPhone pix found their way to 4chan, revealing that she is nothing more than brain-dead meat, and that’s enough said about that.
Looked it up in Wiki; saw a long list of movies and things you couldn't pay me enough to watch. Yeah, my daughter told me about the Hunger Games but I never did get around to see that...
You don’t hear Nicole Kidman or Meryl Streep complain about Hollywood’s ‘gender pay gap’ because they are high quality actresses who chose their parts because they are excellent at their craft. As for Jennifer Lawrence, not so much. Basically a never has been who is getting worse.
hey Jen, money but doesn’t buy class..and you better enjoy yours while you got it because when your stupid mouth causes enough to stop going to your movies your not going to have as much anymore.
Stick to acting Jennifer. You are good at that.
In every other area, you are way out of your depth.
When you mature, you will start to appreciate that you understand FAR LESS than you think. It’s a process, babe. I am happy to become your mentor.
She IS a damn good actress, I don’t care what anybody says.
She is 25. Her half life for blowing her way to movie rolls is about over. She isn’t talented enough to work much past 28.
She better hope for a sit com Netflix or Youtube.
Im embarrassed Jennifer Lawrence is on this planet..what an absolute disgrace..guess she wants to be popular at those elitist parties so she has to come out and spew her liberal BS
When liberals talk about “Womens basic rights” they mean murdering their baby...gee you know who I never hear from about THEIR basic rights, the unborn baby and I guarantee you this, if they had a choice they wouldnt want to die
Probably the right to kill your unborn child. Otherwise I’m befuddled also.
Idiots like this need to spend some time in the ME and find out what trampling on women really means. She’d be one of the first ones stoned or beheaded.
Yep, and reminding them that those babies are living human beings whose lives come to a murderous end is not something they take kindly to hearing.
She was cute while it lasted. Now she is becoming Barbara Streisand-lite. I have not seen a movie with her in it that I know of...we rarely go, but I would not take the trouble to see one if I knew she was in it.
I am embarrassed she is from KY. And she has such a nice mother. Poor woman.
Exactly. The pampered idiot in the article wouldn't last ten minutes over there.
What’s that old saying: You can easily judge the character of a person by how they treat someone who can do nothing for them.
Somebody has a movie coming out.
Any publicity is good publicity.
If I was from Kentucky I would be ashamed that Jennifer Lawrence was from Kentucky.
She’s also lonely apparently.
