- Fix useful things that have broken
- Join things together that belong together
- Fill gaps and spaces with useful material
- Remove excess material and smooth out problems
- Have a vision for what "should be" before it is
- Design and build useful things from raw material
- Use a variety of techniques to accomplish their work
- Protect themselves from harm
- Clean up after themselves
