Putin is a thug who kills political enemies to obtain power, he is NOT a good leader in any western republican or democratic sense.
Putin is simply a highly effective leader taking advantage of a situation given to him by the west, and in rebuilding his country political and strategic position.
Ironically This is why Putin isn’t really as big a threat as many people seem to think. As brash as Putin is, hes not stupid he knows his position in the world and he knows our disposition. His calculation accordingly are really quite sound. It is almost unthinkable that he would attempt to take on NATO, not now. Thus Putin is at best a long term threat.
One that can only be managed by a president willing to make a hard stand against him. unfortunately such a man does not yet exist in any country. Thus for now Putin can do what he wants to advance Russian interest.
