I agree. I noticed that he said Commerce twice, but actually thought at the time, "he handled that way better than Perry." Candidates cram a lot of info into their heads before these debates, and once in a while, the recall just isn't quite there. It happens.
The difference between Cruz and Perry is that when Perry momentarily forgot one of his points, he stumbled, drew attention to it, and gave one of his opponents (Ron Paul, if I remember correctly) the opportunity to step in and correct Perry on Perry's own point--drawing further attention to the fact that Perry's opponents knew his positions better than he did.
With Cruz, on the other hand, he had the confidence to just keep going, and who cares if he said an agency twice? It's the difference between a verbal slip-up that gets some attention the day after the debate (Cruz), and a clip that gets repeated for the entire campaign, and comes to represent a candidate who is just not on the ball (Perry).
“The reason it wonât hurt Cruz is simply because he didnât stumble over it like Perry did. It brought Perry to a dead stop as he thought about it.”

Yes, and also because everyone knows that Cruz is brilliant...a minor error like this does not fit the narrative. However, after listening to Perry for 2 minutes, most folks realize he’s a dope!
Well. The EPA needs to b added to Cruz’ list.
“...The EPA wasn’t always around.”
EPA: 1970
DOE: 1979
Both have outlived any usefulness they may ever have had.
