Fox Business gave the debate all the other networks should have given, including the first Fox News debate. It was not flashy. But it was substantive. It was not just that the candidates had more time or that there were less candidates. The moderators did a good job of drawing out policy differences without intentionally setting up fights. They just happened naturally.
Bill Shine, Roger Ailes, and Fox should be really, really proud of Fox Business.
Cruz really won tonight. He had just a stellar performance. Every word was memorable. Every line was precisely delivered. His defense of his tax plan was solid. His use of Rubio supported sugar subsidies as a way to both defend Rubio on defense spending while throwing Rubio under the bus was first class debate strategy. Few may have gotten it, but I assure you Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 93% did.
Rubio also had a solid performance. A lot of his lines may have been stump speech lines, but few people have heard his stump speech. His lines were polished. His line about Putin as a gangster was spot on and his defense of a strong defense was his best moment.
Fiorina too did well, but came across in some cases as desperate to get lines in.
Jeb held his own. Carson held his own. Trump seemed subdued. Rand had his best performance, but still seemed desperate. Kasich is an ass.
I believe Cruz was pressed harder for details of his economic plans. Still, he clearly dominated given the time he had to speak.
We can all agree on one point: Kasich is an ass.
I hope Cruz will knock Carson out of second place.
According to Drudge link, people may be getting a little tired of the debates.
There are too many and too close together.
As you said on another thread — he was pressed harder, but he delivered. With ease, I might add.
Yep. He needs to bow out gracefully. He’s in over his head.
Amen. He reminded me of a 3rd grader on the playground throwing a tantrum over his marbles.
We won't have a real "debate" until the media stops vying for attention. These "debates" need to be formatted and "moderated" by non-media types who should remain basically invisible so the audience can actually assess the candidates who should, among other things, ALL be able to answer THE SAME question and then have a discussion without that stupid beeper that says, "Hey we, the media, are in charge here and you candidates need to shut up now."
Time to can these media-run debates in favor of actual true debates.
I agree. 8 debates is too many. Fox has scheduled another debate just before the Iowa caucus with Kelly, Wallace and Baier moderating again. I will definitely skip that one and I urge the candidates to do likewise. Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice, well you get it.
Carson was the biggest loser, despite being in second place in the polls going in he came out in 5th place in the debate.
Bush and Kasich did poorly, again.

âThe Nominee just has to be one of us DC Beltway insider types, it cannot possibly be one of these icky outsidersâ
I was quickly bored and turned it off.
Well said Erick
