State funeral list in N. Korea triggers purge speculation
A state funeral in North Korea has sparked another fresh round of purge rumours after one of Kim Jong-Un's most powerful aides was omitted from the official funeral committee list.
Marshal Ri Ul-Sol, who died of lung cancer at the weekend, is to be given a state funeral on November 11, and the list of 170 names published on Sunday -- headed by leader Kim Jong-Un -- is an official Who's Who of the top political and military hierarchy.
A notable absentee, however, is Choe Ryong-Hae, a member of the ruling party's politburo standing committee and seen as one of Kim's closest confidantes.
Even if unwell, Choe would normally be on the list and experts said the omission of someone of his stature could not be put down to oversight.
"It's almost impossible that this happened unless Choe ... was removed from key positions," said Cheong Seong-Chang, an analyst at the Sejong Institute think-tank in Seoul.

Hitler and Stalin routinely had lists like this. It is a basic necessity for dictators everywhere.

was removed from key positionsThe only question appears to be how he was removed. Pack of wild doges? Antiaircraft guns?

When Lenin died, Stalin gave the wrong date of the funeral on Trotsky’s invitation so that he wouldn’t show up to the funeral.

This may be a news to many. The family motto of Kim family, handed down from grampa Kim Il-sung, is, “Never ever trust Chinese.” Kim family find Chinese most devious and dangerous: not Americans, South Koreans, Japanese, or Russians, with whom NK has either frosty or openly hostile relationship in public. While Russians may not be in cordial terms, due to the long history of misbehavior, Russians are not the ones N. Koreans are wary of.

Kim Jong Un would make even his father and grandfather blush at his barbarism. How long with the military allow its senior leaders to be murdered or disappear?

I came across a new development on this matter. A latest news report said that Choe is “in probation” due to his failure to turn China's attitude around. However, there are many possibilities. Only time will tell which of them is true, or how much trouble he is actually in.

I interviewed a US Air Force crew chief who spent nearly three years in a NK prison camp during the Korean War.
He said the Chinese ran the camps and the NKs were the clerks.
