Ajnad Kavkaz, or Soldiers of the Caucasus, has released a short video claiming to show gear its fighters captured from Russian forces in Syriaâs coastal Latakia province. The group is predominately comprised of Chechens and other jihadists from the North Caucasus.
The video, which was translated by the SITE Intelligence Group, shows Hamza Shishani, Ajnad Kavkazâs military emir, speaking to the camera. A militant to his right holds an alleged Russian bulletproof vest. âWe were on the plains [likely referring to the Al Ghab plain near Latakia], when we found out that here in Latakia there was an operation,â Shishani says. âWe arrived after we found out that Russians were attacking here and captured a hill. Praise be to Allah, the hill was taken back.â
Shishani also claims that the Russians retreated from the fighting, leaving behind weapons and gear. âHaving thrown away their bulletproof vest and machine gun here,â Shishani says, âthe Russians ran away.â

That plate carrier is probably 20 pounds, and an RPK is over 10 pounds unloaded, probably 10 more for the ammo. More than an average rucksack.
It was probably Russian supplied gear, dropped by a Syrian, Iranian or Hizbullahnian.
There are so many sides in this warzone. You have the Syrian citizens, Assad’s men, ISIS, the Kurds, the Turks, The Iranians, The Russians , now the very dangerous Chechneans. I will never forget what the Chechneans did on Sept. 3. 2004, the day 385 school children and teachers were killed in the Beslan School Seige. Oh yes, and there is a sprinkling of Americans ‘about 50’, so they say.
Stuff may even be for sale on the black market but Russians will be using infantry to protect their aircraft bases.
And the Chechnens have a very special hard one for Putin after what he did in their country? Anyone know the death toll from Putin’s war there?
According to this source, 10k-40k Russian Federal troops killed in Chechnya with 175k combined civilian deaths. Very little information on the numbers killed.

Whatever your thoughts on Russia, Chechnens are slime of the earth.
If I remember correctly, weren’t the two Boston Bombers from Chechnya?
Yep
