FOX LAKE, Ill. (AP) â The latest developments in the investigation into the September shooting death of an Illinois police officer (all times local):

8:25 a.m
An official says the wife and son of an Illinois police lieutenant who killed himself during a probe of the youth program he ran are also under criminal investigation. The official, who was briefed on the investigation, told The Associated Press's Don Babwin Thursday that it centers on the Fox Lake Police Explorer Post from which Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz allegedly stole thousands of dollars over the course of seven years. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.
He said Gliniewicz's wife, Melodie, and son D.J. are caught up in the probe. Melodie Gliniewicz took part in the Explorer program. D.J. Gliniewicz has angrily dismissed suggestions that his father took his own life. The Associated Press has left voicemail and email messages seeking comment from an attorney for the family. Authorities revealed the embezzlement investigation Wednesday and confirmed weeks of suspicion that Gliniewicz killed himself and staged the scene to look like he died in the line of duty.

Right away, A LOT of cops were calling BS on this.
I know of three friends of mine that picked up on a lot of strange things about this case, and apparently they were right.
Another dirty cop. How much money wasted trying to cover up his suicide?
Now comes a report that the cop was having an affair.
And passed his mistress off onto his son, an active member of the military.
The son apparently married his fatherâs mistress, in order to collect more benefits as a married soldier on active duty...
The mind reels...
Had to try and make his death look like murder so his family could collect insurance money, I guess.
The family will probably still collect some money on this when Hollyweird buys their story to make a movie or TV movie.
Well if they knew he was dirty for 7 years why did they not take action against him earlier. I really don’t know what to believe and the man is dead so he can’t say anything.
The whole thing is weird.
Insurance money, my butt. The wife would be entitled to his paycheck for life, if she not remarried.
This who bunch is a piece of work.
I’ll play devils’ advocate here and question who might set these people up to take the fall for money siphoned off? Either these were some very bad people or someone is out to destroy the whole family.
I can appreciate your advocacy, but it sadly seems he was one, bad dude.

Chump change.
Notice, not "tens of thousands of dollars", not "Hundreds of thousands of dollars", but "thousands of dollars". They didn't even put in a lower limit, so that allegation might not be over enough to buy a used pickup.
For such specific allegations, they are awfully vague and seem designed to paint a picture of someone who is the ringleader of an evil crime family. Just one problem.
Who is going to shoot themselves in the chest (in the body armor, no less). Most 'execution style' hits are in the head, or multiples to the body. Not likely someone is going to do themselves in with a double tap, but that is how some are trained to do away with a perp.
Son complains and --oh! he's a bad guy, too! He only married his wife to get extra money while on duty? (WTF? just how much extra money was he going to get for that?)
No better place to set up a fall guy than from inside an investigation.
You can spread out all sorts of unofficial and unsubstantiated allegations from there and make a saint look like the devil himself.
So all allegations aside, The physical evidence at the murder scene is what tells the story, and something just doesn't add up for me with what has been described so far.
No kidding? Mmmm...
Unless it was a new policy, less than 12 months, 24 in some states, suicide cannot be grounds to deny the death benefit.
