Carson clearly has critical thinking skills, or he would not be a surgeon. I think it more likely this is something his teacher mentioned to him as a child in Sunday (Saturday? Sabbath?) school and he just accepted it without ever giving it much thought one way or the other; after all it is really not very important except to Egyptologists. And, I wish Donald Trump had just let this silly thing alone.

I suppose that’s another possibility, but then that would mean he doesn’t check facts before parroting them to others, including impressionable youngsters he is giving a speech to. That’s not exactly a flattering trait either.

Personally I think he’s just lacking common sense, which is not an uncommon failing of very intelligent, analytical types.
