Matt Bevinâs 53 percent to 44 percent victory tonight marks only the second time in 48 years that Republicans have won the Kentucky governorâs race. But Republicans also made history in another way. Bevinâs lieutenant governor running-mate, Jenean Hampton, is now the first African American elected to statewide office ever in the stateâs history. Both Bevin and Hampton are Tea Party activists who have never held elective office. Hamptonâs path certainly represents triumph over adversity. Born in Detroit, the 57-year-old Hampton and her three sisters were raised by a single mom who lacked a high school education and couldnât afford a television or a car. But Hampton was determined to better herself. She graduated with a degree in industrial engineering and worked for five years in the automobile industry to pay off her college loans. She then joined the Air Force, retiring as a Captain. She earned an MBA from the University of Rochester, moved to Kentucky and became a plant manager in a corrugated packaging plant. Then she lost her job in 2012.

Que the Hawaii five O theme
But, but, the tea party is dead, the news reported that on TV and print.
I’m seeing a lot more black Christians showing up at Tea Party meetings so something’s up. I think they finally got the message; though The One looks like them that’s where the similarities end.
He is well-loved and respected in East Hampton.
She’s off the Dem reservation? How dare she betray her lieberal masters and side with the old, white bigots? /sc
Will the RNC promote her or stab her in the back like they did Sarah Palin
I’m sure she’ll be on all the Sunday talk shows and be invited to deliver commencement addresses at every major university.
Democrats would say to your face that she cannot actually be black.
WOOOOHOOOO Jenean Hampton
A GOP office holder who had stones enough to serve in uniform. That’s pretty damned unusual.
Psssssssst!
Ovaries aren't "stones"...
Go with the metaphor. Certainly she has more stones than the Romney boys do.
I'll grant it works as a metaphor.
But you can't deny that, as a literal statement, it's kinda funny.
What a wonderful, amazing story this woman has.
The better literal, yet metaphorical, statement while also having some humor would substitute the word huevos for "stones."
I’d credit her education and experience as an industrial engineer for giving her the reason and logic to see through the tissue of Demo lies that promise something for nothing. She had the classes that showed why a perpetual motion machine is impossible so she knew it also could not be replicated politically.
