To start with, if I were president for a day or advising the president (which I did 12-14 years ago), I’d summon the AG and the FBI Director to the White House and direct them to advise me of the primary targets of all ongoing CT investigations - all file classifications (there are eight categories) - in the Hamtramck (Detroit Field Office) and see how many of their “city leaders” are implicated and how. We’d play it by ear from there...

I'm not sure I like the idea of using the FBI and the Justice Department to investigate politicians without cause.

I did not say “initiate investigations”. It’s not the INITIATION of investigations, it’s determining which investigations are already underway and learning of the reasons those investigations were initiated (i.e., probable cause) and are ongoing. IF they’re valid and they implicate politicians (and many do) in criminal activity, pursue them with vigor and without consideration of political influence - the latter of which (political influence/interference) happens a LOT more than you might think.

Islam is cause enough. It is a socio-political system masquerading as a religion, and not entitled to first amendment protection.
