'Egypt has done more damage to Gaza tunnels in a few weeks than Israel did in 2 decades'
Jerusalem Post ^ | 11/04/2015

Cairo has been pumping water into Gaza's underground network of tunnels to stop the flow of weapons from the coastal envoy to militants in Sinai.

GAZA - Mahmoud Bakeer speaks with despair about the night of the flash flood, when he screamed at his wife and five children to flee their home on Gaza's border with Egypt as the water rushed in.

They made it to safety during the flooding last week, but a network of Palestinian tunnels running under the frontier town of Rafah is now water-logged, destroyed by Cairo to sever what it says is a weapons smuggling route out of Gaza for Islamist insurgents in Egypt's Sinai desert.

For Bakeer, 61, the fact that Egypt, once a gateway to the world for Gaza's 1.8 million Palestinians, was behind his family's suffering, was particularly painful.

"We respect our neighbors, we love Egypt, but our neighbors are making our life harder," he said in his one-story unfinished cinder block house, around which water seeps and cracks in the ground are growing wider.

Egypt's pumping of salt water from the nearby Mediterranean into the tunnels is not only creating a mess as it rises to the surface. Palestinian officials say it is also contaminating water supplies as well as threatening to wreck farmland and spread disease.

I see no downside here.

The Egyptians were far more aggressive on the tunnels than the Israelis when I was there in Sinai from 2011 to 2012. Not that the Israelis weren’t good, but the Egyptians don’t get a lot of credit for what they do trying to pen the Gaza Palis in.

Egypt is interfering with terrorists? It’s no wonder Obama’s minions are mad at Egypt’s government.

They’re fine with the tunnels so long as the weapons were going to be used against Israel, but now the same weapons are coming back to arm their insurgents, it’s time to flood the tunnels...

I’d love people to take a moment to think how this story would be written were it Israel doing this - it would NOT be kind.

Only because ISIS is on the other end. If there were no ISIS, the tunnels would be open for business.

Egypt does it-—not a peep.

If Israel did it there would be hell to pay.

The good old lib double standard is alive and well.

the Israelis are very brave defenders of their little land but their ‘morals’ keep interfering with them from actually WINNING (destroying the enemy and, where applicable, keeping whatever they win doing it)

until the Jews in Israel learn this simple lesson of how to defend, run their own country successfully..... the enemy will stay alive and continue to launch murderous attacks on Israel

just as the Moslems ignore their Koran about how their ‘god’ has given that land to the Jews............the Jews in that land ignore the Bible about how to keep it successfully (such as Deut. 7:2 for starters)

If Israel had done this it would have been condemned by the “international community “, not that they’re not used to that, but Egypt can handle the heat.

Good for them both!

Israel cannot be as aggressive as Egypt. Their aggression would be perceived as an act of war by the international community. They are basically limited to obvious self defense while Obama is in office.

“maybe Israel will learn a few things from the Egyptians .????”

If the Israeli’s did it, we’d be bombarded with 24/7 Muzzie propaganda of young children drowning in the tunnels while hiding from Israeli airstrikes....
