It was a book signing, not a campaign rally. Have you seen coverage of book signings held by other politicians (or celebrities, for that matter)? They're typically always covered with relatively tight angles, because the structure of the events are not really conducive to wide-angle shots. Trump's event was covered like any similar event would have been, but that wasn't enough for him. Trump wanted CNN to promote his YUUUUGE crowds, and is complaining like a petulant child because they didn't do it.
A few.
I understand your point but when a crowd the size of Trump's signing - and the fact that he's running for president - should have been reason enough to include a wide shot. i.e. "By midday, a line snaked around a Midtown Manhattan city block." It seems that a line like that should rate some space, even if just a thumbnail, no matter who was signing.
Why yes I have. I saw one yesterday of a Carson book signing.
It was at a Costco and they showed the entire crowd.
They started filming when they approached the crowd and continued filming all the way up to the table where Carson was sitting.
Also, This is the same Sarah that reported on an event that Trump had several weeks ago.
She tweeted a picture of an area with empty chairs and made a snarky comment.
What she failed to say was that the chairs were empty because all the guests were standing up and crowding the stage.
