Well, perhaps SOME people lie about sex with their cars...
QWERTY, ergo typo!
Well, most automakers were allowed to use air pumps in their emissions systems to deal with CAFE standards, which effectively is a device that drives emissions down, while also driving down performance. VW didn’t want to make the compromise in performance so they found another way, which I can understand.

The number of politicians and high-level EPA officials who really understand anything at all about Thermodynamics is vanishingly small, approaching zero. It’s all about a narrative and an agenda now. Internal combustion evil! More mileage! Less emissions!
For myself, this short audio clip sums up my thoughts on the matter:

The real question here is, Who else is cheating?
no, just BS
VW’s U.S. plant is in Chattanooga. They had a unionization vote in the last year or so. Despite pro-union encouragement from VW management, the vote failed. U.S. workers understand how unions (don’t) work in the U.S. better than German management.
Looks like it was almost 2 years ago now.

Retirement car! a perfect description.
Curious as to your selection?
My wife retired and purchased a Prius, I have come to love it! Many, many short trips to family and friends. 4K miles and still 50+ MPG, they say the winter gas will bring it down a bit. She drove a Suburban for many years and a Honda for work. We have the wagon version and use the exact same full size dog cage as in the Suburban, in the back! That was a requirement, never know when the dog wants to swim, or worse!
Not the fastest; it does OK.
Being a wagon most people do not recognize it as a Prius!
I had a 2012 beetle (the first after the change) and traded for a 2014 Beetle now (Both are gas).
This is a great little car, I love driving it, gets good mileage, tons of room for big guys like me, I love the look, and I don’t give a flying f@ck about some idiot government emissions rating—and I give not one single f@ck about VW lying about it.
2015 Hyundai Sonata Limited with Tech and Ultimate package. Just under $30k. It has adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats with memory setting, heated rear seat, HID headlights with auto dim, LED tail/brake lights, 8 inch nav screen, auto dimming rear view mirror, and a lot more. It's very smooth and quiet, even at 85 mph. Absolutely beautiful car and I haven't had any trouble with it.
