High Murder Rates in Brazil Prompt Push for Gun Law Reform

Brazil Improvised Submachine guns

Illegal homemade and small shop submachine guns are common in Brazil.  High Murder rates in Brazil have legislators considering reforms of Brazil’s strict gun laws.  According to wikipedia:

All firearms in Brazil are required to be registered within the state. The minimum age for ownership is 25,[5] and it is generally illegal to carry a gun outside a residence.[6]

Brazil only has 6-8 million legal guns, and they are heavily restricted.   Brazil’s  population is over 200 million.    The Homicide rate is 25.2 per 100,000,  six times as high as that in the United States.  Another study puts it at 32.4 per 100,000.

Looking to the United States, where gun ownership has doubled, concealed carry licenses have tripled, and murder rates have fallen in half, the Brazilian Congress is considering a law to allow most people to own guns, buy ammunition in limited quantities, and allow a select number of people to carry guns for self defense.  From yahoo.com:

A draft law stripping away current limits has already been approved in committee and is due to go to the lower house of Congress in November.

Under the law, anyone over 21, including people accused of crimes or convicted of less than serious crimes, would be allowed to purchase up to nine firearms a year and 50 rounds of ammunition a month.

50 rounds of ammunition a month

Need much more than that for proper training and practice.

Brazil has a very high murder rate in their cities, and only criminals have guns. Bad combo.

When I shot regularly, I'd go through that in 10 minutes.

The qualification test for a Texas CHL is 50 rounds, alone.

“50 rounds of ammunition a month”

That’s called a warm up before the actual shooting begins.

woops- posted too soon- They found out that where gun ownership is highest, crimes are usually lowest- (common sense really)-

Hopefully they allow people the right to own guns, violence goes down, and they become an irrefutable case study in common sense to shut the gun confiscation advocates up once and for all

Illegal homemade and small shop submachine guns are common in Brazil.

The old laws didn't work so why do they think the new laws will?

Brazil only has 6-8 million legal guns, and they are heavily restricted. Brazil’s population is over 200 million. The Homicide rate is 25.2 per 100,000, six times as high as that in the United States.

Meanwhile, the US has about 400 million legal guns, and they are generally NOT heavily restricted, and out homicide rate is 1/6 of Brazil's.

So, quite clearly, less guns = more crime.

I can't wait until my next argument with an anti-gun jackass (but I repeat myself).

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. Note that Michael Savage has called Liberalism a mental disorder...and then see how these 2 ideas mesh with each other.

The old laws were extremely restrictive.

They did not work.

The new laws are much less restrictive. They may help.

Gun controllers will never shut up, because the issue is one of controlling the population, not fixing any particular violence problem. No amount of evidence will sink through.
