I feel like the guy up thread who always thought it was ridiculous that there were rumors connecting pillars of society to pedophilia. I’m starting to wonder as well.
What is going on? I believe we need the death penalty for sex crimes against children 13 and under. Two counts and you are out.

None of the stuff they mention in the story is admissible in court. There’s a big difference between what you know and what can be proved in court following the laws and rules of evidence. The best those tapes are good for is getting warrants, maybe. It’s the same reason we often know who the biggest drug dealer in the land in and they stay number 1 for years and years. And the worst thing you can do is arrest them then lose the case, then they know you’re onto them and start taking precautions, you’ll never catch them again.
This has happened over and over again with the FBI, mostly with protecting informants.
A recent incident I seem to recall might have been involved with the Whitey Bulger case, and there were 2 men convicted of a crime (the FBI knowing they didn’t do it), and IIRC, one of the men died in prison, the other was released after it came out that the FBI was protecting the real murderer, and helped set this guy up, after more than 30 years in prison.

This is dangerous territory. Fogle was never charged with actual physical contact with minors. What the author here is evidently relying upon is that his Internet presence is that of a fruit loop; thus, nobody would bother to sue for defamation. But on the elements of that tort, Fogle may very well have a case, if he so chose.
