Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) won the first round of votes for the job of House Speaker, but 45 Republican legislators voted against him.
Those 45 members are enough to block him from getting the Speakership during the partisan floor vote on Thursday if the 45 GOP legislators maintain their opposition, and if Ryan is not aided by a last-minute bloc of Democratic votes.
During the closed-door conference, Ryan won just 200 votes for the nomination. Former Florida House Speaker Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) earned a whopping 43 votes. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)who isnt officially running for Speakerreceived one vote. House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who dropped out of the Speakership race a couple weeks ago, got one vote as well.
The failure on Ryans part to win 218 votesthe threshold for anyone to win the Speakership on the House floor assuming every member of the House is present and voting for a personis a major embarrassment on his part.
The question now becomes whether Ryan will be able to get at 18 of the 45 Republican votes he lost to get behind him on the floor on Thursday. If he cant succeed by the first ballot, the election could go to a second ballot on the floorwhich would likely lead to Ryan’s demise.

People wake up. Ryan will be elected overwhelmingly tomorrow. Most of the 45 will vote for Ryan, as Jim Jordan already stated this afternoon.
It is over. Ryan will be better than boehner.
Please be carful when referring to “boobs”....I have always been a fan of those.
While Paul Ryan is not my favorite choice, he is a very smart career politician. Hopefully smart enough to realize that if he caters to only the old-guard he will be shown the door like his predecessor.
Again, Ryan is smart and ambitious, so he may help change the party for the better. I won't hold my breath, he has maybe 100 to 150 days to show he has the right stuff.
I love that sentence: The whole rotted, kleptocratic post-war order is close to collapse.
I doff my chapeau. I sure hope you’re right.

That’s probably why Jebby Bush is NWO, open-borders. NWO Daddy told him how things were gonna go.
Jeb, meanwhile, is confused as to why nobody supported him outside mom, pop, Karl Rove, W and a few liberal RINO’s.
Never thought I'd see the day and realize that there really isn't a dimes worth of difference between the two parties.
Nov 2016 is REALLY our last chance to get our country back - if its not already too late. Dear Lord, please help us
.
Please give us a link to prove it.
Has time been scheduled for when the poor overworked “Speaker to be” gets to spend time with his wife and kids yet?
But hey, the demonrats who just LOVE him will put him over the top...yay.
It is a micro aggression to use English.

...Rising to formally nominate Ryan on Wednesday was Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.)...
There are huge numbers of Americans laboring under the delusion that that the politicians give a damn and that their vote matters. Rather stunning when it comes down to it. Mass psychosis.
The difference between ryan and boehner is that boehner was an incompetent enemy. Ryan is a very skilled one.
This is what voting has wrought.
Eddie Munster is just another malignant kleptocrat. Unfortunately one who is far more skilled than his predecessor.
We traded in a drunkard for vidkun quisling.
