Dennis Hastert pleaded guilty Wednesday to lying to the FBI in a hush-money scheme, agreeing to a deal with federal prosecutors that recommends he serve no more than six months in prison and averting a trial in the case.
A judge, however, could go beyond that recommendation and give the former House speaker up to five years behind bars.

Hastert is just one of a long line of vile homosexuals that have molested young boys and who have achieved great power in a decadent, hedonistic, neo pagan modern culture.
Now, the underlying act is certainly despicable — but the statute of limitations has run out on that.
I don’t understand how Hastert can use his own money to pay someone to keep quiet and he’s the one facing jail time. Seems like the counter party would be the one on the hook for extortion
Is this just a case of the old double standard where republicans go to jail for what democrats can do with impunity? Don’t get me wrong; I’m not defending Hastert. Just confused why this is a crime.

It’s hard to have any sympathy since the underlying case was hush money being paid as blackmail to someone to keep quiet about being a child molester.
But thats not the reason he is going to jail.
He is going to jail for not telling the government what he was doing with his own money. If he had actually told them that he was withdrawing to money for (personal expenses or something) he would have gotten away with it.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Exactly, and that is not the government's business. Someone should sue to overturn the "structuring" statute.
