Don’t we have antitrust laws to stop giant corporations from having too much control of the market?
“Duane Reade Inc., a subsidiary of the Walgreens Boots Alliance, is a chain of pharmacy and convenience stores, primarily located in New York City, known for its high volume small store layouts in densely populated Manhattan locations. The headquarters is located at 40 Wall Street in Lower Manhattan.[1]”

I experienced a nightmare equipment deployment situation doing some subcontract work via what I thought was a sensible and reputable organization.
Miami was my Waterloo in some respects.
Everything on that operation could have come from Dilbert’s PHB.
I don’t think this is good. There will soon be just a few giants in the drug store area - not good for the consumers to not have competition.

We do, of course.
But they aren't operative during Democrat administrations, when approval for major mergers/acquisitions can be had by, shall we say, "administration-friendly firms".
A few hundred thousand here, a few hundred thousand there and, voila!, the DOJ flashes the go-ahead. ,p> The Clinton administration, for example, set a record for mega-mergers.
I don’t do Wally World so it’s not on my radar screen. Know that most of their stuff comes from China, how about their drugs?
No...Clinton eliminated them way back when...
Didn’t know about CVS buying Target’s pharmacies. Haven’t shopped at Target for a couple of years and quit going to CVS when I found out Soros has a major interest in that company. My go to places is very, very small.
Last time I bought meds was earlier this year for the grandson and ended up getting them at Kroger where I buy all my groceries. It was more convenient as they filled it while I shopped for groceries.
Soros bought CVS, Rite Aid, Halliburton in Q4
Feb 14 [2007] Billionaire investor George Soros said on Wednesday he bought 2.1 million shares of CVS Corp (CVS.N) and 1 million shares of Rite Aide (RAD.N) in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Soros also added 1.9 million shares of Halliburton (HAL.N) and 1 million shares of Take-Two Interactive Software (TTWO.O) to his portfolio during the quarter.
Soros Fund Management LLC disclosed its holdings as of Dec. 31, 2006 in a quarterly filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

I knew they were gougers from getting Mother's scrips there, and I got them to match online prices under the threat of losing her business. That was 20 years back.
Push for deregulation of pharmacies. Why not let pharmacists prescribe? Why not move more drugs to over the counter? It’s my body.
Yeah but only one of them sells cigarettes, that will make a big difference. Rite Aid has sucked ever since it took over Thriftys, I had a lot of great memories of Thriftys when I was a kid.
Wow I didn’t know Soros also bought into Halliburton. I do know that Halliburton had some issues resembling the Enron debacle with a whistleblower involving the SEC but don’t remember how that ever turned out. Also thought there was some talk about a merger with Schlumberger. My oldest grandson had a friend who worked for Halliburton in Duncan, Oklahoma, and was caught in that sizable layoff up there.
Thanks for the info - still good things to know. Hard to keep up with it all.
We don’t need no steenkin’ Anti-Trust Laws.
Pharmacists probably know a whole lot more about the meds they are peddling than any doctor ever did. Last time I was in Walgreen’s noticed more stuff behind the counter and under lock and key than ever before. Lot of stuff we used to use isn’t available any more - like turpenhydrate and couldn’t even find any of the old Vicks!
Yeah but only one of them sells cigarettes...”
I think a lot of people quit going to CVS because of the cigarettes issue, even though they themselves didn’t smoke.
Never much cared for Rite-Aid, for that very reason. During the Clinton years, that company bought out a local New Orleans pharmacy chain called Katz & Besthoff (K&B), which had kept soda fountains into the 1970s and sold really good store-brand products. Stock selection promptly plummeted, and as the K&B employees lost interest and quit, so did customer service.
Can't say I'm sorry to see Rite-Aid go. What, me, hold a grudge? Naah.
You're welcome. But I had no idea, so looked it up.
>>Rite Aid isnt even close. The only reason I go there is for Higi blood pressure<<<
To get it or to treat it?
