And our Constitution is devised to favor compromise between factions

Not really so! Yes, they can compromise over the locations of post offices, military bases, naval procurement contracts--things which deal with the enumerated functions of the Federal Government. But no man of principle should compromise over deliberate usurpations of power or functions not delegated to the Federal Government. And of course Washington warned us about the growth of factions.

Notice how Sen. Cruz’s offer gives something to everyone. That’s what makes people on the other side agree to vote for your ideas.
......................................................Not necessarily. King Solomon offered a “compromise” to the two women who were arguing over who was the mother of the child. He proposed to “Cut the child in half.” Sounds fair, doesn’t it? Well, not if you are the child, or the real mother. There can be good compromises and there can be bloody damn bad compromises. Eisenhower allowing the Russians to take Berlin was a political “compromise’ and led to the cold War. Compromise is NOT necessarily a wise decision. People living in the real world know that.

The way you define "self-made," would eliminate the very concept from our social vocabulary. No one starts without the benefit of parents--although some parents are worthless and may be more handicaps than assets.

Trump building on his family achievements is the American way--indeed the Western way, reflected in what is best in our civilization and heritage.

From Magna Carta on, the concept of building on family achievement has been very central to the ethos. Trump is a builder in more senses than that immediately apparent. And much of what he has been saying--even if sometimes a bit rudely--demonstrates that he really does understand the multi-generational concepts & processes that are the core of the American way.

The Birchers were ostracized from the party in part because they promoted a theory that Ike was a communist. It’s a significant part of the history of the conservative movement in the post-war period. You need to hit the history books and study up. Suggested starting place: WFB and t h e John Birch Society.

Cherry picking among numerous real estate ventures, to pick the ones that were least successful, is a totally meaningless exercise, with respect to the issues in this campaign.

On the other hand, it is common practice among real estate development firms, to set up separate corporations for every major project. Whether you like the idea or not, the Corporate structure has always been used to limit potential losses to investor. Putting individual projects that do not work out into bankruptcy protects the overall, ongoing business.

But the real point is that you are injecting "red herrings," to divert attention from the real issues in this campaign--which have nothing to do with the ups & downs in the Casino market. (And Trump's using the typical method in his line of business to limit losses to what is actually losing money, does not in the slightest disparage Trump.)

Not interested! My knowledge of history is quite sufficient, thank you!

I happily concede the positive effects of gowing up in a Church-growing two-parent family. I am the happy product of the same. I readily confess the debt I owe my blessed Sainted parents for all that I am.

And my sons in their even greater achievements, owe a debt to my beautiful, Sainted wife and me.

But in a crucial way, I am a self-made man. I am not a billionaire, but I am a millionaire and businessman, humble and modest though my business dealings are. My parents gave me good morals , good habits, and unmovable principles, but my parents did not give me a large fortune. Making money from money takes work, prudence and diligence. The story of the man who received millions from his parents and squandered it all is a truism. trump, to his great credit, is the antithesis of that truism. He has taken a part of his father’s fortune and conserved and grown it to a significantly larger fortune, at least in nominal terms.

But it is not the same as the guy who made a bundle, no matter how modest, without a major founding capital contribution from mommy and/or daddy.

trump is not a “self-made billionaire.” He got a really big head- start from tens of millions in cold, hard, cash. There are many self-made billionaires with net worths that are multiples of trump’s who truly are business geniuses who helped others to millions and billions, instead of impoverishment like many of trump’s investors.

It’s fair to compare his track record for investors with others. He is running for president on his supposed reputation as a business genius. But if that record shows a pattern of impoverishment of investors while he makes millions, then he is more of a genius conman rather than genius bussinessman.

It is true that his business failures are only a modest portion of his businesses overall. But in the aggregate, they represent a sizeable share of his total fortune. In fact, at one point his business failures threatened to wipe him out. But he got smart and started to shield himself from his business failures. He at least would not lose large sums from his failures, and in some cases, he would still make piles of cash while investors were losing their shirts. It’s kinda like the lie of Planned Parenthood claiming that only three percent of their business is abortioms.

There is a big difference. trump expresses his narcissism by building things up. Obama tears things and other people down to feed his own ego.
