They don't believe that they are creating a maelstrom. They believe that they are creating a nice, orderly, regimented society. With them at the top of course.

There will most certainly be deprivations, but Chelsea or Malaria won't suffer any of them so why be concerned? As for the "teeming masses who will suffer? The left will blame their misfortune on the pubbies and everyone will reflexively nod in unison like the lemmings they are.
