Sounds like someone he prosecuted took it personally.
They've had better than ten years to consider those possibilities, with no indictments forthcoming. More likely they have a pretty good idea, and it's either one of their own, or they don't want a spirited defense to inspire dozens, even hundreds of copycats.
Or both.
