That is more of a measure of the lack of discernment of America's professing Christians than anything else.
Carson is a cult member who believes you have to keep the OT laws to be saved (dietary, etc.), and who therefore rejects the finished sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. Carson is not a genuine Christian.

I don’t have problems with people self-imposing such restrictions on themselves, but to teach it is a requirement of Christianity is to be lost in the law.
Trump’s from a Presbyterian background, I believe. His favorite verse is unutterable, because it probably has to do with Jacob and Esau in the middle of Romans. :>)
