As a giant marketplace of ideas, Facebook is an astonishing barometer, for better or worse. Its force-multiplying likes and shares can direct masses toward aspirational Arab Spring-type movements or incite mobs with false grievances, such as the Hands up, dont shoot mythology that plagued Ferguson.
Whether people of goodwill are swept toward virtue or delusion and chaos depends on their willingness to Think Again about unexamined facts and likes to follow truth wherever it may lead, as Thomas Jefferson urged.

Welcome to Free Republic.
Is this perhaps your own material?
Two posts, no reply, same source, both excerpts.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Curious indeed.
Thanks, no, but I do respect the way Melanie writes. This especially hits close to home for me, as this recall election is pretty much in my backyard.
It’s actually my column, and I’m grateful it was shared here because Free Republic readers are on the frontline of the battle to save so much about America.
So much is in jeopardy, including education reform in CO (and beyond), and having allies like those who read this site, who’ll “supercharge the truth” is indispensable.
Clearly.

Nothing but your own material is worth posting, obviously.
I am a lonely conservative operating behind enemy lines, writing for a liberal paper that gets a lot of clicks because it is Aspen. Yes, I’ve tried to drive conservative traffic to help me fight the internet trolls and “hostile” letter writers. Forgive my assertiveness, I did not know I was breaking any rules.
I don't think there is a hard and fast rule.
It does seem to be, at a minimum, bad form. We ain't your advertising tool.
Carry on, you'll get no more grief from me.
Probably.
And if LibertysWordsmith is your second log-in.. I’d fess up and have it deleted.
No, it is not.
The contempt for an ally — and lack of grace, “humblegunner” — is so representative of the problems we have on our side. If only we could focus our fire power on the real problems we have, instead of circular firing squads, we’d be much better off.
Sigh....and signing of.
Dang, I thought I was being nice.
This is big issue for FReepers in Jeffco. The article presents a balanced view of the situation out here.
Those of us who support the school board have witnessed a level of craziness, out-and-out lying, and political deception that is frankly hard to describe.
And it is driven by Facebook and other social media. I’d bet that 90% of the people who are “liking” the recall effort know nothing about the issues other than some inflammatory thing they read on twitter.
