Syria is giving the Russians (AND the Chinese, by the way) a real chance to real-world test all of that tech and new doctrines they have been developing for the last twenty years.
And the stuff in Syria, SO FAR, isn’t even the latest of the latest. When you start seeing the new ELINT aircraft and such flying over Syria, then THAT will be the latest joint Russia-Chinese stuff.

The Russians finally sent up an unmanned lunar lander which scooped up and returned several ounces of soil. That was it. Even 46 years after we did it, no other country has sent a man to the moon.
