Dogs decended from dogs, not wolves, or anything else. What would you breed to a wolf to get a Maltese? Also, wolves are still here. Not buying any of their evolving idiocy.

Dogs have always been dogs.
Wolves have always been wolves.
No one has considered that perhaps God simply made both, without making a huge fuss over it.
