Sudoku, the logic-based, number placement puzzle known to help stimulate cognitive abilities, causes one man to have seizures.
Doctors from the University of Munich published the case study in the Journal JAMA Neurology.
A 25-year-old right-handed man started experiencing this unique case of reflex epilepsy after being buried by an avalanche during a ski trip. He was deprived of oxygen for 15 minutes, but made it out alive.
"He had to be resuscitated, but was extremely lucky that he survived," says Berend Feddersen, author of the study.
However, surviving the ordeal didnât come without side effects.
Shortly after, the patient developed myoclonus, or involuntary jerking, in his mouth and legs when attempting to talk or walk. Both his arms appeared to remain unaffected, at least for a few weeks.
When gearing up to enter rehabilitation therapy a few weeks later, the study states that the man was working on a Sudoku puzzle when his left arm began to twitch and seize uncontrollably.....
